ECOM takes part in AIDS 2024

The 25th International AIDS Conference (AIDS-2024) will take place in Munich from 22 to 26 July. This global annual event is an important platform for discussing topical issues in the field of HIV/AIDS. The conference has long been a unique platform that brings together scientists, policy makers, health professionals, people living with HIV, media and community representatives.

And, of course, ECOM – Eurasian Coalition on Health, Rights, Gender and Sexual Diversity (ECOM) could not miss this event. Especially since this year ECOM experts will actively participate in many important sessions and activities that will take place during the conference.

VirusOFF, ahead of the AIDS 2024 conference, will be publishing collections of materials about and from the Eastern Europe and Central Asia (EECA) region, including recommended sessions and partner sessions, activities of organizations and community networks.

In this article we have compiled for you the information about all the sessions and activities during AIDS-2024 that will be attended by ECOM experts:

  1. Pre-conference (20-21 July)
On 20 July, from 9:30 to 17:00

Nikolay Lunchenkov, ECOM LGBT health coordinator, will speak at the “Second International Chemsex Symposium (ICS)”

Venue: Clinic of Dermatology of the Ludwig-Maximilians University (LMU).

  1. Conference (22-26 July)
On 22 July, from 15:30 to 17:30

Vitaly Djuma, Executive Director of ECOM, will participate in a panel discussion on “Shrinking civic space and the future of the AIDS response”.

On 23 July, from 12:00 to 13:00

Tina Sobko, ECOM Communication Officer, will present her poster “Increasing Visibility and Changing Viewpoints: Lessons from the TikTok “We are alike” campaign for trans* communities in the context of HIV/AIDS”.

On 23 July, from 15:00 to 17:00

Vitaly Djuma will be speaking at the UNAIDS event “Securing the Future: A Civil Society and Human Rights Imperative for Public Health and HIV Response in Central and Eastern Europe and Central Asia”.

On 24 July, from 10:30 to 11:30

ECOM session “Sex as a human right: gay life  in EECA countries”.

Venue: EECA Regional Space.

On 24 July, from 15:30 to 16:30

Nikolay Lunchenkov will be speaking at the session “PrEP in EECA countries: from pills to long-acting injectables. How to increase coverage in times of crisis: achievements and barriers of PrEP programmes in EECA countries”.

Venue: EECA Regional Space.

On 24 July, from 16:45 to 17:45

ECOM session “Community response to humanitarian crises in EECA: best practices for support”.

Venue: EECA Regional Space.

On 25 July, from 12:00 to 13:00

Nikolay Lunchenkov will present his poster “Prevalence and relationship of intimate partner violence among PrEP users in pre-war Ukraine”.
