About #Put People First
Walls are not the answer! – #PutPeopleFirst!
Ahead of the 25th International AIDS Conference, a regional campaign #PutPeopleFirstEECA is launched by EECA Networks and organisations, as part of EECA Networking Space at AIDS 2024.
The #PutPeopleFirst EECA campaign aims to amplify the voices and experiences of people living with HIV and key population communities from and for Eastern Europe and Central Asia. This initiative aligns with global efforts to humanize the fight against AIDS by prioritizing personal stories and humanity, contributing to the global campaign #PutPeopleFirst. Key regional networks, CSOs, and national community leaders are uniting to showcase best practices, share successes and challenges, and urge coordinated actions with international, regional, and national partners to effectively respond to the new challenges in EECA.
Over the next month, number of activists, community members, public and international organizations, human rights defenders from the EECA region will share short video stories on how to stop the HIV epidemic and why #PutPeopleFirst is crucial in this process.

EECA Region Space – AD08
Walls are not the answer. #PutPeopleFirst!
The Eastern Europe and Central Asia region is off track in reaching the targets to end AIDS by 2030. Restrictive laws, criminalisation, stigma, discrimination, and gender inequality hinder access to healthcare. Political pushback, anti-rights trends, shrinking civil space, and Russia’s war in Ukraine which caused tectonic changes in the region, have exacerbated existing health-related problems and created new barriers — a new “Berlin Wall” being built before our eyes.
In response, key regional networks, CSOs, and national community leaders are uniting to showcase best practices, share successes and challenges, and urge coordinated actions with international, regional, and national partners to effectively respond to the new challenges.
